The Benefits of Lavender Essential Oil

by Bella Folium |  | 1 comment

We source our lavender essential oil from an organic USDA certified farm as not all lavender oils are equal. If you find lavender oils that are inexpensive and at drug or grocery stores, you're most likely seeing a lower grade oil with fillers. We include high quality lavender essential oil with its host of benefits and the subtle sweet floral aroma to offset our alcohol-based formulation.

What exactly is lavender essential oil and why include it in a hand sanitizing gel?

Lavender essential oil is distilled from the plant Lavandula angustifolia, which is how it is listed on our ingredient list. The oil has a host of benefits while also promoting a sense of calm and relaxation. You’ll commonly find lavender essential oil used in aromatherapy used with a diffuser as it is believed to treat anxiety, calm the mind and body, help with insomnia, relieve allergies, depression, nausea and menstrual cramps.

We also love lavender because it has a subtle yet sweet aroma of floral, lightness, cleanliness and calm.

How does lavender essential oil benefit your skin?

Lavender is a popular skincare ingredient and you’ll find it almost everywhere from soaps to beauty products. Why? Lavender as a topical, meaning on the skins surface, may help cleanse and soothe minor skin irritations or even used to relieve your skin after a long day in the sun. Lavender may also help reduce the appearance of blemishes and dark spots while supporting aging skin.

We added this wonder plant ingredient as the whole world redefines “hand hygiene”. It is now more important than ever to frequently wash your hands with soap and water. When that is not available, sanitizing your hands to kill germs is the next best option. Water and alcohol will cause our hands to feel dry and “prune-like”, and although the “alcohol” formulation evaporates quickly, the smell may not be as pleasant. By adding Lavender essential oil, our formulation, offsets the smell of alcohol and restores balance to your skin. According to board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Debra Jaliman, lavender contains a slew of skin care benefits, including antioxidants, which can detox the skin and reduce inflammation. “Lavender also has antimicrobial properties, which are suitable for healing skin,” she adds.

I just read an active ingredient in your hand sanitizer is toxic. Trienthanolamine. Did you see that on the news?
